Tour Outline
Drive yourself in a Ford Mustang, Sedan or SUV
This 16 day, 2500-mile self-drive tour travels iconic route 66 from Chicago or Los Angeles. Designed for travellers of all ages with a choice of vehicle types it is easy paced with regular stopovers providing ample opportunity for sightseeing and relaxation. It is not practical to drive the full length of old route 66 as over the years much has been amalgamated and/or realigned. That said we still do a lot of travelling on the Mother Road and visit most of the major attractions along the way.
Route 66 is without doubt the most well-known road in the USA. It is iconic, a symbol of an ever-changing America. Probably no other road in the world has as many interesting and strange sights. Leaning water towers, all kinds of giants, restored gas stations, Wigwam Motels, hot-rods and custom cars, Barbed wire museum, a painted desert and Cadillac Ranch to name just a few. Then there’s the eating places like The Big Texan in Amarillo (Home to the 72oz steak – eat it in under an hour and its free) and Peggy Sues 1950’s diner with great food and one of the best gift shops in the USA. What makes Route 66 extra special is the variety of attractions and scenery. At Oklahoma, we visit the National Cowboy Hall of Fame, ride the longest aerial tramway in the world at Albuquerque, drive through a painted desert and petrified forest at Holbrook, to mention just some of the many diverse places we visit. “I would like to say how much I enjoyed the Route 66 tour it certainly exceeded my expectations. Your input was invaluable and nothing was too much trouble and I saw more than I expected. The accommodation and transport was exemplary. Having been to Las Vegas twice with you who knows I may show up again. Many thanks to you both.” – Regards E
